Hi. Today I am going to share my thoughts about The Agonies by Ben Faulkner. I say share my thoughts because I'm not sure this is really a proper review, certainly not one that would get published in a literary journal. This is a very interesting book. It really kept me engaged and interested. It's been compared to, let's see, it was on here somewhere, something about J.D. Salinger. It was somewhere I read that. Anyway, it has a kind of Salnger-esque, Holden Caulfield-ish feel to it, but it's not Catcher in the Rye by any means. There's similarities, but anyway, it's just a very unique story.
The part about YouTube almost felt, it reminded me of many years ago when I got very involved in promoting myself online. It just ... it wears you out. It really does, and I never want that to happen again. So I am very, very selective about what I do and how much I engage on the internet, because my energies are easily sapped. In any case, I don't know if that has anything to do with this book. It reminded me of that time, so I really kind of felt something for this person being written about and just thought it was an interesting read. The end is ... it has one of those endings that just make you kind of go, hmm? That's all I'll say. I enjoyed it actually. I enjoyed this book, although I'm not sure how I feel about the end. In any case, it's one of those literary novels, I guess you could say, whatever that means. It's written and it's an interesting story. So ...
I see what happened. It's written in dark red, like a maroon color on a light blue background, so I couldn't see the words, but it's on here. "In the tradition of Albert Camus, J.D. Salinger and Osamu Dazai (I think), the archetype of the savage young man at the precipice returns in Ben Faulkner's hypnotic debut, The Agonies.” Okay, yes, that's the kind of book this is. Savage young man at the precipice. I should write about a book about the savage young woman at the precipice. That would be different. Be seeing you.
PS: In the manner of Albert Camus. Is it Albair Camoo? Am I saying it wrong? Sorry. Oh, I dunno. Bye. That's all. Thank you. Be seeing you.
